Description

The Skatepark Ansbach is being built on the vacant land at Schleifweg with the aim of creating a lively movement meeting point. Spanning a total area of 600 m2, the design incorporates elements from urban spaces (benches, railings, etc.) and combines them with organic elements (quarterpipes, corners, etc.) to form a modern “Street-Flow-Skatepark”. Planned in collaboration with the interest group “IG Skateplatz”, the design caters to the needs of various users (skateboarders, BMX riders, stunt scooters, etc.).

Specifically, the skatepark distinguishes itself through a two-tiered structure. This allows for the integration of elements with greater impact, such as bump-to-ledge, London Gap, and downrails, into the overall concept. As an identity-defining feature of the street course, the flat surfaces are connected at ground level to the designated user area. Between this area and the second level, so-called “Street-Essentials” like ledges, manual pads, and flatbars can also be found. Additionally, both entry areas can be accessed with a sport wheelchair via a WCMX ramp, enabling a fully inclusive use of the skatepark.

By integrating planted embankments on vertical walls and new tree plantings into the design, the park seamlessly blends into its natural surroundings. The main seating area, serving as a step with wooden decking, connects the existing grass path with the slightly lowered level of the skate facility. The use of Corten steel as lost formwork, along with black-painted metal elements, contributes to an individual and urban overall appearance in the skatepark.

The entire skatepark is designed to be highly transparent. Higher elements are located at the edges, allowing for an unobstructed view into the skatepark along the entire pathway. Lastly, this design approach aims to increase social control and make the skatepark a safer place, particularly for children and to promote gender inclusivity.
