At the southern edge of the Südsee recreational area in Otterndorf, a new skatepark has been completed, significantly upgrading the existing facility at Norderteiler Weg. Covering approximately 650 m², the new site offers an inclusive space for informal sports such as skateboarding, BMX, stunt scooters, and WCMX, while also serving as an open meeting point for movement, social interaction, and participation. Built in durable in-situ concrete, the park combines functional versatility with a distinctive design approach.

The layout follows a modern street-flow concept, blending urban elements such as rails and curbs with organically shaped transitions. At its heart is a multifunctional centerpiece that connects various riding surfaces. It is surrounded by a thoughtfully arranged combination of low, beginner-friendly features and targeted challenges like quarter extensions that appeal to more experienced riders. The park is complemented by a 200 m² kidney bowl whose shape references classic backyard pools, offering optimal flow and riding conditions for transition skaters.

Special attention was given to ensuring inclusive accessibility. The park was designed to be low-barrier and adapted specifically for use with sports wheelchairs (WCMX). An integrated ramp, clear spatial guidance, and tactile orientation elements enable independent use, while contrasting surface markings improve visual safety and orientation within the space.

A defining element of the park’s identity is its maritime design language. Details such as container and crane structures, industrial ground markings, and robust materials create a strong visual connection to Otterndorf’s nearby marina and lend the facility a unique local character. The park also integrates seamlessly into its surroundings: aligned parallel to the existing facility, it fosters shared use and a cohesive sense of place. Ground-level seating areas promote visibility and comfort, while sound barriers are softened by greenery. Designated graffiti walls provide additional opportunities for creative expression.

With the completion of the new skatepark, Otterndorf now has an open, freely accessible space that unites movement, creativity, and community—enriching the Südsee leisure area in a future-oriented and inclusive way.
