With the redesign of the skate facility on Oldenburger Straße, the municipality of Bad Zwischenahn has created a dynamic space for movement that offers a broad range of sports opportunities within a compact footprint. The approximately 550 m² skatepark was constructed in durable in-situ concrete and designed as an open meeting point for skateboarding, BMX, stunt scooters, inline skating, and WCMX.
Despite its narrow layout, the park impresses with a smart spatial organization. A modern street-flow concept combines urban features such as ledges, banks, and flatbars with organically shaped transitions to form a well-considered multi-line system. The layout allows for linear, circular, and intersecting lines that encourage creative riding and keep sessions engaging over time.
A key aspect of the planning was openness and social accessibility. By removing the former perimeter fence, establishing clear sightlines, and positioning taller elements along the edges, a space was created that promotes visibility, safety, and a welcoming atmosphere. Concrete benches along the edge of the park and a covered gathering area further enhance the site’s usability for visitors and companions.
Design-wise, the skatepark is visually anchored in its surroundings. Pigmented medium-grey concrete gives the park a subtle, timeless appearance, while soft blue tones and wave-like linework—referencing the town’s logo—introduce a locally inspired identity. Newly planted trees frame the site and strengthen the connection to the surrounding green space.
With this new skatepark, Bad Zwischenahn has established a creative, inclusive space for informal sports—compact, functional, and visibly shaped in dialogue with the local scene.
