Bünde, Skatepark

The new Bünde skate park on Osnabrücker Straße will create a 1,000 m² space for exercise and socializing, combining urban movement practices, sporting activities, and community gathering. The existing 600 m² skate park will be completely renovated and transformed into a modern in-situ concrete skate park – complemented by a newly designed 400 m² basketball court that ties in with the overall concept in terms of both function and design.

At the heart of the design is a street flow skate park that is consistently geared towards the needs of different users – from beginners to experienced riders, from skateboards to scooters to WCMX. The facility has a two-level structure that integrates individual elements such as bump-to-rail, manual pads, curb, and flatbar, as well as a creatively shaped jump line with an adjoining bench hip. Flowing transitions, open sightlines, and generous spacing between the elements promote safe, versatile, and creative use. A barrier-free ramp also allows wheelchair users to access the upper level.

In terms of design, the new skate park has a clear and unique identity: vertical walls are clad in Corten steel, while pigmented in-situ concrete creates an organic floor pattern that subtly reflects the cigar punch shape as a design motif from the cityscape of Bünde. Newly planted trees and modeled embankments ensure that the skate park blends naturally into the existing green structure.

The facility is complemented by the simultaneous renovation of the adjacent basketball court. A new asphalt surface, modern baskets, ball catch fences, and colorful line design pick up on the design language of the skate park and form a visual and functional unit. The two facilities are connected by a jointly designed recreation area with trees and solid concrete benches – as a meeting place, relaxation zone, and part of the development.

The combination of skate park and basketball court creates a harmonious ensemble in Bünde that combines sporting use, recreational quality, and local identity in a public space – inclusive, robust, and usable by all generations.
