North of the Schalkwiese sports facility, the Ehningen Trend Sports Center has created a new venue for urban exercise culture in public spaces. The approximately 1,200 m² exercise area includes a skate park constructed of in-situ concrete and an asphalt pump track – both designed according to the operating model of free, open, and outdoors. The center is open to other urban sports and sees itself as a dynamically growing component of the municipal sports infrastructure.
The design is based on a multi-stage participation process with local users. The wishes and requirements of different age groups, experience levels, and disciplines were directly incorporated into the design. The result is a low-threshold, inclusive offering that is aimed equally at skateboarders, BMX and scooter riders, and WCMX users – regardless of skill level or access barriers.
The skatepark follows the principle of a “skatepark for everyone”: covering an area of approx. 600 m², it features a varied combination of street and flow elements, complemented by a well-thought-out topography and open sightlines. A higher level running through the center, versatile ledges, banks, manual pads, and a specially integrated WCMX access allow for a wide range of uses – with enough space for creative lines and individual appropriation. The adjacent pump track was also designed as a low-threshold circuit that is suitable for both beginners and experienced riders.
The design language of the facility is concise and understated. Organically modeled concrete surfaces, geometric path structures, and strategically placed seating areas create a clear, urban image that blends sensitively into the green surroundings. Pigmented in-situ concrete in a subtle medium gray and selectively placed wooden surfaces give the site a simple but striking identity.
An integrated lighting system with on-demand control allows for extended use in the evening hours—within noise regulations. The result is not only a sports facility, but also a high-quality open space with recreational value—accessible, safe, and open to future developments.
