Description

In the Nahbollenbach district of Idar-Oberstein, the existing skate park is being developed into a 600 m² modern exercise center made of in-situ concrete—embedded in the landscape and exercise park and thus directly anchored in the natural environment. Open sightlines, green border areas, and recreational zones combine sports, walking paths, and park use into a shared experience space for children, young people, families, and spectators.

The design follows a needs-based “skate park for everyone” approach: A two-stage street flow structure combines urban elements (curbs, ledges, rails, banks) with softly modeled transition and flow passages. The multi-line concept enables linear, circular, and intersecting routes – from short transfers to connected circuits – thus creating permanently creative lines for beginners and advanced skaters alike. Dimensions, radii, and approaches are designed for the entire roller sports community (skateboards, scooters, inline skates, BMX); barrier-free solutions and easily visible access points make the area explicitly inclusive, including for WCMX.

In terms of landscape architecture, the skate park blends discreetly into the exercise park: newly planted trees, natural meadow strips, and sculpted embankments frame the riding areas; seating edges and wooden surfaces create a pleasant atmosphere with views of the landscape. The Nahbollenbach skate park thus combines urban, informal exercise with nature experiences and local recreation – as a lively hub in the countryside that brings the park to life all year round.
