The Urban Sports Park on Neuherbergstraße in the north of Munich is a new place for exercise in public spaces. The approximately 1000 m² facility combines a skate park in in-situ concrete construction with a seamlessly integrated asphalt pump track, creating a versatile facility for informal roller sports – open, free of charge and suitable for all generations.
The design follows the principle of a clear, open structure. Color-accentuated concrete in a restrained shade of green, dark steel elements and subtle height modulation give the site a striking identity without separating it from the surrounding green space. Seating areas, spacious recreation zones and open-plan spaces promote social uses and make the complex an integrative meeting point in the neighborhood.
The central concern of the planning is a balanced relationship between functionality and design. Different levels of experience, forms of movement and mobility needs are given equal consideration. The barrier-free access and specific elements for WCMX underline the claim to inclusion and diverse usability.
