In Nidderau, a new skatepark is being developed on Vorderstraße that creates a high level of functional variety and a distinctly individual riding experience within a relatively compact footprint. The starting point of the design was not to create an overloaded course on roughly 500 m², but rather a concentrated, clearly composed facility in which a surprisingly broad range of use emerges from a small number of precisely placed elements. The design is based on two participation rounds with the local scene and responds directly to the needs expressed on site.
The park’s particular quality lies above all in the way its elements work together. Rather than placing obstacles next to one another in isolation, the layout is composed so that transitions, changes of direction, and connections flow naturally into each other. The central ensemble of speedbump, rainbow rail, and volcano forms the spatial core of the park. This structure is complemented by quarter and hip elements, a slappy/manual combination, a flatrail with elevator function, and a versatile kicker/gap obstacle. As a result, despite its compact size, the park offers a broad range of possibilities, a strong identity, and plenty of potential for creative lines.
The design language also gives the project a distinct character. Sections in a red brick design deliberately break up the continuous concrete surface and create a strong identity both visually and haptically. At the same time, the park remains open and easy to read: taller elements are placed along the edges, the center stays clear and legible, and the seating area naturally connects the facility to the surrounding paths and public space structure.
