In Potsdam’s city center, the existing “E-Park” skate park at the substation on Friedrich-List-Straße is being completely renovated and expanded to around 900 m² as a street flow facility in in-situ concrete – freely accessible, “free of charge, open to all, and outdoors,” and closely coordinated with the local roller sports community (skateboarding, BMX, inline, scooter, WCMX). This will create a lively meeting place that complements the green surroundings in the center and enables a wide range of uses for all ages and skill levels.
In terms of design, the concept deliberately ties in with the location and history: motifs from the adjacent substation – power pole geometries, industrial color scheme – are translated into floor patterns, rail design, and materiality. The park remains low-threshold (base heights up to approx. 1 m), but offers more challenging extensions in selected areas. The multi-line concept interweaves linear street elements with organic transition passages to create many combinable lines; two integrated WCMX ramps provide access to higher starting points. Benches and a defined seating area on the north side enhance the social integration, while coordinated lighting extends the window of use during the dark season.
The facility blends openly and transparently into the surrounding green spaces: at ground level along the access route, with gentle slopes instead of high vertical surfaces, drainage that promotes infiltration into the green areas, and clearly organized crossing points—the result is an urban sports area with local recreational quality in the heart of the city.
